I've been working on an inter window communication javascript library based on javascript built for Vox. This allows browser windows or tabs on the same domain to communicate and cooperate. One use case for this is for comet connections. Due to self imposed browser limitations, multiple connections to the same domain are limited to two connections and comet connections would produce odd behavior when multiple windows or tabs are opened on the same domain. This is the first step in efficient use of a single comet connection across multiple tabs or windows. This library would be used with another project of mine: Cometd: The Scalable Comet Framework
Check out my demo: Inter Window Communication
Note: Currently this only works in Firefox 2 and IE 5.1+
Small update to the KVOX player. You can now generate a bigger version, which looks as it does below. The smaller version was originally created when we started working on embeddable sidebar assets (it's coming... it's coming...), but since we did embeddable post assets first, I figured I'd let you make a slighly larger player which will show off that album art better. Unfortunately, most of the album art that I've attached sucks. Damn.
Make sure you insert as Extra-large. In the next release, we're going to sort of auto-size and auto-center your embeds, so it won't look so wonky when your size doesn't match ours.
I created a bookmarklet so you can PM a voxer with a link to any page.
Since I can't actually put the bookmarklet here on vox ( we strip javascript out ), you can visit my VOX Bookmarklets page to get it.
It will fill out the subject using the page title and add the link to the body for you.
*Update*
Do you find yourself always sending links to a specific person on vox? Well, now you can create your own bookmarklet that will auto fill in that person as the recipient! Visit the link above and enter your friend's blog url in the box to create your own bookmarklet.
(I plan to add more bookmarklets as time permits.)
Vox has search, but searching on tags are not my idea of a good context search. They are working on a search engine, but until then, I created a custom search engine using Google Custom search.
You can search all of vox, but anything private (friends, family, draft, etc) won't be found. I setup categories, so you can search all of vox, or narrow your search down to posts, audio, video, books, and photos.
There's a bonus for Firefox users: You can add the search engine to firefox by clicking the "Add Vox Search..." link on the top right. Which also gives you a neat way of searching: select text on a page, and right click "Search vox for 'blahblah'"
Check it out and tell me what you think. I've been using it for a few days now and I think I've got the categories working well.
Search Vox.com
Vox-labs.com was started by two Six Apart employess, Pants Party and I, so we would have a site to put our vox related tools on, such as my Vox bookmarklets, and Pants Party's KVOX (ask him)
Well anyway, I've got mono, and it is wreaking hell on my body. I'm having bouts of hypersomnia, insomnia, headaches, body aches, and sore throat. :( Throw some collective luck my way please.
I'm creating a FireFox extension for Vox!
I'm still trying to come up with a name for it.
I own several vox related domains, which I can use for the extension.
- voxr.net
- voxer.net
- voxosphere.com / org / net
- voxwatcher.com
- voxtension.com
- firevox.info
- vox-labs.com
Pants Party came up with voxtension, and I'm leaning toward that one, or voxr as a second choice.
FireVox is a speaking firefox extension, so that's taken.. What do you think?
Also, here is a list of features I plan to have
- Search Vox with Google - Done
- Session Switcher: sign into multiple accounts, and switch your logins easily
- Add youtube videos to your library with one click
- Notifications of new posts from your neighborhood
- Drag and drop uploading interface
Feature requests are welcome. Some of these are easier than others, so the list is in order of implementation.
